The most Everest summits record set—27 and 17 times

Legendary climber Kami Rita Sherpa scaled Everest for 27 times on Wednesday breaking his own record for the most Everest summits said his expedition agency Seven Summit Treks.

Kami Rita, 53, stood atop the summit (8,848.84m) of the world’s tallest peak at 8:30 am with his teammates, Seven Summit Treks, his expedition agency announced on its Facebook page.

A native of Thame village in Solukhumbu, Kami Rita has been guiding foreign climbers to the world’s highest peak for over two decades.

His mountaineering journey began in 1992 when he joined an expedition to Everest as a support staff member. Kami Rita scaled Everest in 1994 for the first time. Since then, Kami Rita has fearlessly embarked on numerous expeditions, summiting Everest multiple times.

Kami Rita’s achievements extend beyond Everest, as he has also conquered other formidable peaks, including K2, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Manaslu.

Kami Rita’s world record, however, is in stake as another Nepali guide Pasang Dawa, from his native district, scaled the Everest 26 times two days ago. Pasang is 7 years younger than Kami Rita and capable of climbing Everest twice in the same season.

British climber Kenton Cool also broke his own record for the most Everest summits by any foreign climber by scaling Everest on Wednesday for 17 times. Professional mountaineer Kenton summited the peak with Dorji Gyaljen Sherpa and Siddhi Tamang, according to his expedition organizer. His expedition was organized as part of charitable event to raise fund support people living with rare dementias.
