Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa summits Everest four times in 15 days
Nepali climbing guide sets world record by summiting Mount Everest four times in just 15 days.
Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa, a Nepali climber, has successfully summited Mount Everest four times in a single season, according to expedition organizer 8K Expedition.
“Tashi reached the summit of Everest at 3:13 AM,” confirmed Pemba Sherpa, Executive Director of 8K Expedition. “His goal was to summit Everest four times in 20 days, and he achieved it in just 15.”
This accomplishment surpasses previous records. Last year, Dawa Phinjhok Sherpa summited Everest three times in eight days. Purnima Shrestha also set a milestone for female climbers by reaching the summit three times within the same span.
Tashi began his remarkable series of ascents on May 9, when he reached the summit with the rope-fixing team. He returned to the top on May 14, and again on May 19 while guiding Bangladeshi climber Ikramul Hasan Shakil. Shakil, a UNDP Youth and Environment Advocate, trekked approximately 1,400 km from the Bay of Bengal to Everest Base Camp as part of his "Sea to Summit" expedition.
Tashi, 29, is from Lhamu Rural Municipality-4 in Khumbu Pasanglhamu, Solukhumbu. He began his climbing career in 2017. He first summited Everest in 2019.In addition, he has also reached the summits of other eight-thousanders, including Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Shishapangma.
Sherpa climbers have long been the backbone of Himalayan expeditions, often risking their lives to support international climbers while providing for their families. For Tashi, this feat is not only a personal milestone but also a step toward making a name for himself in the world of high-altitude mountaineering.
