Nepal has raised the climbing permit fee for all its 8,000ers by 36-40 percent. As a result, the new permit fee for climbing Mount Everest during the spring season has increased to $15,000 up from $11,000 per person.

A massive flood has swept through Thame, a Sherpa heritage village in Everest region at an altitude of 3,800m above sea level, on Friday afternoon.

Nima Rinji Sherpa, 18, became the youngest person to summit Kanchenjunga, his 13th ascent of an 8,000-meter peak.

The Department of Tourism refuted Nimsdai Purja’s claim that the fixed line had been cut above Balcony, saying the claim was seemingly made to gain popularity. The Department in a strong worded statement said an investigation will be proceeded and legal action will be taken against Purja and other involved in disseminating false information.

The Department of Tourism, issuing a statement, stated that 570 climbers including Nepali climbing guides, scaled the world's highest peak, with five fatalities. Three climbers are still missing from the death zone.

The search for British climber Daniel Paul Paterson and Sherpa guide Pas Tenji Sherpa has been called off after days of unsuccessful efforts, leaving them presumed dead.

Adding to her achievement of breaking the record for the fastest female ascent to the summit in 14 hours and 31 minutes, she completes the base camp-to-base camp trip in 24 hours and 26 minutes.
