Shehroze Kashif becomes the youngest person to summit GII

Pakistani climber Shehroze Kashif aka Broad Boy summited Mount Gasherbrum II (8,034m) on Monday, becoming the youngest mountaineer to scale nine peaks above 8,000m.

Shehroze’s social media handles posted a video with the description “Shehroze Kashif calling from Gasherbrum II summit”. He reached the summit of the world’s 13th highest peak at 9 am local time.

The 20-year-old mountaineer wants to become the youngest person to summit all 14 peaks above 8000 meters. His record-breaking mountaineering journey began when he summited Mount Broad Peak at the age of 17, making him famous as The Broad Boy.

This spring, he summited Kanchenjunga (8,586m), Lhotse (8,516m) and Makalu (8,485m) in Nepal in 23 days.

Shehroze calls his recent Nanga Parbat ascent as the toughest one so far. He and his companion Fazal Ali summited Nanga Parbat on July 5, but lost their way while going down due to heavy snowfall. The duo were forced to spend a night in open at 7,500m. They managed to climb down to Camp I in two days, from where they were airlifted to Skardu.

The Broad Boy is the world’s youngest mountaineer to summit Nanga Parbat at 20 years old. He also became the youngest person to summit Gasherbrum II.

In 2021, the 19-year-old summited Everest (8,848.86m) and K2 (8,611m), world’s first and second highest peaks. He is the youngest Pakistani to summit Everest, and the world’s youngest to summit K2.

The 29-year-old Grace climbed Mount K2 and Mount Broad Peak on July 22 and 28 without supplemental oxygen. GII is Grace’s 11th peak.

Nepali guides Nima Gyalzen Sherpa and Ningma Dorje Tamang accompanied her to the summit. Nima Gyalzen is one peak away from joining the 14 peaks club.
