Second Mongolian climber found dead on Mount Everest
The 31-year-old Purevsuren Lkhagvajav’s body was found at 8,300 meters near the balcony of Mount Everest. This marks the second Mongolian fatality in as many days, following the earlier discovery of his climbing partner, Usukhjargal Tsedendamba.
A climber missing for five days near the summit of Mount Everest was found dead on Saturday, marking the second Mongolian fatality in as many days, officials said.
Purevsuren Lkhagvajav, 31, was discovered deceased at 8,300 meters near the balcony of Mount Everest, according to Pemba Sherpa, Managing Director of 8K Expeditions.
Khimlal Gautam, Chief of the Expedition Monitoring and Facilitation Field Office at the base camp, separately confirmed the death, saying that the search team had found the body near the south summit. "We have received reports that it was found 30 meters down the rope near the stone of the south summit," said Gautam.
The body of Purevsuren Lkhagvajav, 31, was discovered by a search and rescue team at an altitude of 8,300 meters near the balcony of Mount Everest, according to Pemba Sherpa, Managing Director of 8K Expeditions. This discovery comes a day after his climbing partner and compatriot, Usukhjargal Tsedendamba,53, was found hanging on a ladder near the south summit.
The 8K Expedition had deployed Pechhumbe Sherpa, Ming Nurbu Sherpa, Arjun Karki, and Lanka Ram Tamang for the search and rescue.
The two climbers lost contact with the expedition’s base camp manager on Sunday and were last sighted by a team from TAG Nepal at 8:45 AM on May 13. The duo was part of a nine-member Mongolian expedition organized by 8K Expedition.
According to 8K Expedition, the climbers had only paid for base camp services and bottled oxygen and were climbing on their own without Sherpa assistance.
