Rare record set by Polish climber on Lhotse and Everest
Piotr Jerzy Krzyzowski made history by summiting both Lhotse and Everest without supplemental oxygen in just under two days.
Piotr Jerzy Krzyzowski has made history by becoming the first and fastest person to summit both Lhotse and Everest without supplemental oxygen. The Polish climber achieved this feat within 1 day, 23 hours, and 22 minutes.
Mount Everest and Lhotse, the world’s fourth highest peak, are sister peaks that share the same route through the Khumbu Icefall and the first three camps up to 7,800 meters. Known as the "double headers," the combined ascent of these two peaks in one go is considered a rare and extremely challenging feat in mountaineering.
According to Seven Summit Treks, Krzyzowski reached the summit of Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m) on May 21, 2024, at 2:38 p.m. Two days later, at 2:00 p.m. on May 23, 2024, he stood atop the summit of Mt. Everest at 8,848.86 meters.
According to the Department of Tourism, Krzyzowski was part of a 15-member fee-paying group with Seven Summit Expeditions, led by Matteo Bonalumi. The other members of the expedition were Joshua Cheruiyot Kirui, Devon Michael Levesque, Tunc Findik, Benjamin Jonathon Rose, Kayla Perez, Oleg Kiriyanov, Cesar Enrique Vazquez Romero, Robert James Hutchinson, Josette Valloton, Jonathan James Kedrowski, Rene Meile, Landry James Warnez, and Daniil Kireev. Kirui died near the summit.
