Pasang Dawa Sherpa scales Everest 26 times equalizing Kami Rita Sherpa's world record
Kami Rita Sherpa, who has already scaled Everest 26 times, has already headed out to the summit of Everest to scale the peak 27th times
Pasang Dawa Sherpa, who stood atop Everest at 9:06 am on Sunday, has become the second Nepali guide to scale the world’s highest mountain 26 times.
Nepali veteran guide Kami Rita Sherpa was the only climber to scale Everest 26 times. Last year, he reached the summit of Everest while leading the rope fixing team, breaking his own record of highest ascent of Everest.
“Pasang Dawa has made it to the summit of Mount Everest 26 times today. He’s a hidden gem,” said Mingma Gyaljie of Imagine Nepal Treks and Expeditions.
Pasang Dawa was born in Pangboche, close to Everest. He made the first ascent of Everest in 1998. With summit of Everest this season, he has made 30 summits of eight-thousanders.
Kami Rita still holds the record for most 8,000 meter summits, with 38 total.
Kami Rita, 53, has already headed out to the summit for 27 th ascent of Everest. Pasang Dawa, who is 7 years younger than Kami Rita, can make many more climbs of the peak in future.
Pasang Dawa was guiding Hungarian climber Marton Peter Price. Besides, Pakistani climber Naila Kaini scaled the peak becoming the first female Pakistani climber to scale 5 eight-thousanders. American Jessica Rae Wedel, Pakistani Nadia Lisa Khoso and Chinese Liamhui Cui also made it to the top of the world. Pasang Temba Sherpa, Ang Mingma Sherpa, Pem Chhiri Sherpa and Thundu Sherpa also stood atop the peak.
