Pakistani climber becomes the youngest person to summit four 8,000ers

A 20-year-old climber from Pakistan has become the youngest person in history to climb four 8,000ers, the organizers said.

Shehroze Kashif stood atop Mount Lhotse— the fourth highest peak in the world, on Monday morning,  according to his manager Saad Manuwar.

It was the 20-year-old’s second peak in a row —Kanchenjunga and Lhotse — in the ongoing spring season. He wants to set a record of youngest person to summit five highest peaks in the world.

On May 5, Shehroze climbed Kanchenjunga (8,586m) setting a record of youngest person to summit the world’s third highest mountain.

He successfully climbed Mount K2 (8,611m) at the age of 18, becoming the youngest person to summit the savage mountain. The K2, the second tallest peak after Everest—is considered  as one of the most difficult eight-thousand peaks to climb.

He also climbed Everest later that year.

Shehroze had previously climbed the Broad Peak, 12th highest mountain in the world, at the age of 17, a feat which earned him the nickname ‘The Broad Boy’.

“With the success in Lhotse, Shehroze becomes the youngest person ever to climb four higher 8,000ers–Everest, K2, Kanchenjunga and Lhotse,” Chhang Dawa Sherpa, one of the managers of expedition organizing company Seven Summit Treks tweeted

This year, Nepal’s tourism has issued 127 climbing permits for Lhotse, the second highest number of permits after Mount Everest.

Rope fixing team reached the Lhotse summit on May 11.
