Kristin Harila from Norway on Saturday stood atop Mount Kanchenjunga, her third summit of 8,000 peaks in the Himalayas, expedition organizers said.
Kanchenjunga is the third highest peak in the world after Everest and K2 in Pakistan.
“She reached Kanchenjunga’s summit at 5.30 am this morning,” organizer Lakpa Sherpa of 8K Expeditions told Everest Chronicle.
Harila, who is on a mission to climb all 14 peaks in six months, climbed Dhaulagiri, the seventh highest mountain in 10 days after her first ascent of Mount Annapurna on April 28.
“She did three peaks– Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Kanchenjunga — in 17 days, which is good speed,” Lhakpa said.
She hopes to summit three more 8,000ers – Makalu, Everest and Lhotse before flying to Pakistan where she plans to climb five peaks above 8,000 meters in mid-June. She plans to summit Mount Everest, Lhotse and Makalu this spring.
In 2021, Harlia became the fastest woman to climb Everest and Lhotse in a record 12 hours. If she succeeds, she will beat the record recently set by Nirmal ‘Nims’ Purja and chronicled in the Netflix documentary film 14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible.
Nepal is home to eight of fourteen tallest peaks above 8000 meters in the world.
