Kristin Harila breaks Nimsdai’s record; summits four 8000er in 24 days

Kristin Harila from Norway stood atop Mount Everest on Sunday, her fourth summit of 8,000 peaks in the Himalayas, her expedition organizer said.

“She reached Everest’s summit at 8.45 am this morning,” organizer Pemba Sherpa of 8K Expeditions told Everest Chronicle.

Eight days ago, Harila climbed Kanchenjunga (8,586m), the third highest peak.

Harlia plans to summit all 14 peaks in six months. She plans to climb five peaks above 8,000 meters in Pakistan in mid-June.

She started off with the summit of Annapurna (8,091m), 10th highest mountain in the world. She then scaled Dhaulagiri in 10 days from her first ascent. She climbed four 8,000ers in 24 days, which is five days earlier than the fastest climb record set by Nirmal Purja. Purja had climbed the four peaks in 29 days. Coincidently, Purja also summited Everest on May 22 during the Project Possible expedition in 2019.

Last year, she became the fastest woman to climb Everest and Lhotse in a record 12 hours. She plans to summit Everest, Lhotse and Makalu in less than 48 hours, her expedition organizer said.

Nims had climbed Everest, Lhotse and Makalu within 48 hours. “So she wants to break Nims brother’s record. The main vision of this project is to give a message that women too can,” said Lakpa Sherpa of 8K Expedition.

According to him, the team will be heading to Mount Lhotse in the evening today.
