Nima Rinji Sherpa, an 18-year-old Nepali climber, has become the youngest person to summit all 14 of the world’s highest peaks, each towering over 8,000 meters, according to a statement by expedition organizer Seven Summit Treks on Wednesday.
Nima reached the summit of Mount Shishapangma (8,027m) in Tibet early Wednesday morning at 6:05 a.m. local time, alongside his climbing partner, Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, who also completed his own 14-peak challenge.
Nima’s journey to this historic achievement began in September 2022 when he summited Mount Manaslu (8,163m). Over the course of two years and 10 days, he successfully climbed each of the 14 mountains, including Mount Everest, K2, and Annapurna I.
“Nima’s extraordinary accomplishment is a moment of immense pride for all of us,” Seven Summit Treks said in the statement.
Nima is not an stranger to mountaineering. He hails from the Sherpa ethnic group, famed for their climbing expertise, and comes from a family of accomplished climbers. His father Tashi Lakpa Sherpa is a seasoned climber, who run 14 Peaks Expedition. Nima’s uncles, Chhang Dawa Sherpa and Mingma Sherpa, have also completed the 14-peak challenge. Mingma is the first climber from South Asia to achieve 14 peak feat. Chhang Dawa and Tashi run the country’s biggest expedition company Seven Summit Treks.
