Eighteen-year-old Nima Rinji Sherpa became the youngest person to summit Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain (8,586 m), who scaled the peak at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, head of the 14 Peaks Expedition.

Accompanied by climbing partner Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, Russian climber Alina Pekova, and four Sherpa guides—Dendi Sherpa, Fura Tsering Sherpa, Phurba Kusang Sherpa, and Ang Tenji Sherpa—Nima reached the peak, further improving his place in climbing history.

Sona Sherpa and his client Anja Blacha were reportedly en route to the summit at the time of the announcement.

Last year, Nima set records as the youngest person to climb K2 and to traverse from the summit of Mount Everest to Mount Lhotse at the age of 17. With Kanchenjunga, he has now successfully summited 13 of the world's 14 highest peaks, with only Shishapangma remaining to complete his goal before turning 20.
