Makalu records season’s first ascent
Record-holding Lakpa Sherpa has now summited the peak for the eighth time. He also holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest triple ascent of the mountain in a single season.
Mount Makalu (8485m) has recorded the season's first ascent achieved by a rope fixing team reached on Thursday morning, according to expedition organizers.
Seven Summit Treks, the expedition organizer entrusted with fixing the crucial ropes, announced on its social media that their team led by renowned Lakpa Sherpa, reached the summit around 10.20am. With the climbing ropes now secured to the summit, the highly anticipated summit push for other climbers is set to begin.

Lakpa, who often lead the rope fixing team on Makalu, also set a record by summiting this challenging peaks for the eighth time. He also holds a Guinness World Record for the fastest triple ascent of the mountain in a single season, having climbed Makalu three times in just 16 days in 2022.
In addition to his record on Makalu, Lakpa, also known as Makalu Lakpa, has summited Mount Everest, Mount Cho Oyu twice, Mount Manaslu four times, and Ama Dablam six times
Makalu is known as one of the most challenging peaks to climb due to technical rock and ice climbing sections.
The rope fixing success opens a window of opportunity for international climbers hoping to reach the summit.
The Department of Tourism record shows at least 40 climbers have obtained climbing permit for the world’s fifth highest peak.
