Renowned climbing guide Kami Rita Sherpa has reached the summit of Mount Everest for the 30th time, further extending his own record for the most successful ascents of the world’s highest peak.
Kami Rita stood atop the summit at 7:49 a.m. on Wednesday with his group, according to Khimlal Gautam, Chief of the Expedition Monitoring and Facilitation Field Office. This marks his second ascent of the season, after his first on May 12.
Kami Rita’s mountaineering career began in 1992 when he joined an Everest expedition as a porter. He made his first successful ascent on May 13, 1994, at the age of 24.
Since then, he has climbed Everest nearly every year, achieving six double ascents. Kami Rita is closely followed by Pasang Dawa Sherpa, who has summited the peak 27 times.
