Climbing guide Kami Rita Sherpa has further improved his world record by scaling Mount Everest for 26th times, officials said.
Kami Rita, 52, stood atop the summit (8,848 m) of the world’s tallest peak on Saturday evening with ten other members of his rope-fixing team, according to liaison officer Khimlal Gautam.
“The rope fixing team reached the summit today at 6.55 pm,” said Gautam.
Other members of rope fixing team includes So Sherpa, Ngima Tashi Sherpa, Phurba Sherpa, Tenjing Gyalzen Sherpa, Lakpa Tenji Sherpa, Phurba Kusang Sherpa, Mingma Dandhu Sherpa, Pastenji Sherpa, Tareman Tamang and Phurba Chhotar.
Interestingly, the summit comes exactly a year after his 25th summit. He made his 25th ascent on May 7 last year while fixing ropes to the summit. In recent years, Kami Rita has been leading the rope fixing team due to his long experience and expertise.
Born in Thame village of Solukhumbu in the foothills of himalayas, Kami Rita had started his career in mountaineering as a porter before jumping into climbing. Later, he switched to mountaineering after his brother, Lakpa Rita Sherpa, gave him a chance to work as a climbing guide.
Kami Rita, who first climbed Everest in 1994, was planning to summit the peak twice last year. He later aborted his second attempt after reaching Camp III due to bad dreams.
