Gham Power wins global climate prize for pioneering clean energy solutions
Kathmandu-based solar company among top ten global innovators recognized by the 2025 Keeling Curve Prize
Gham Power, a renewable energy innovator, has been named one of ten global winners of the 2025 Keeling Curve Prize, a prestigious award recognizing high-impact climate solutions worldwide. The announcement was made at the TED Countdown Summit in Nairobi, Kenya on Wednesday.
Gham Power, selected in the “Energy” category, was awarded $50,000 to scale its solar-powered solutions that bring clean, affordable electricity to underserved rural communities across Nepal. The company stood out for its innovative integration of solar technology and financing models that address energy poverty while reducing carbon emissions.
“From starting during Nepal’s energy crisis to now completing over 4,000 projects, Gham Power has become a model for how decentralized energy can transform lives and support sustainable development,” the Keeling Curve Prize committee noted.
Founded in the wake of heavy electricity loadshedding in Nepal, Gham Power’s work now spans from powering remote villages to supporting agriculture and local businesses through solar microgrids and smart financing tools.
The Keeling Curve Prize, organized by the Global Warming Mitigation Project (GWMP), is awarded annually to ten organizations demonstrating breakthrough approaches to climate mitigation. According to the organizer, this year’s winners were chosen from over 2,500 applicants globally and span five categories: Carbon Sinks, Energy, Finance, Social & Cultural Pathways, and Transport & Mobility.
This marks a significant international recognition for Nepal’s growing clean energy sector and underscores the country’s potential to contribute to global climate action through localized, scalable solutions.
