An Egyptian woman has reached the summit of Mount Everest on Monday morning becoming the country’s first female climber to scale the world’s highest peak, organizers said.
Manal Adel Youssef, 43, climbed the peak with her guide Anup Gurung, an IFMGA guide and vice-president of Gandaki Alpine Club.
“Manal and Anup are on the way back to South Col,” said Gobinda Gurung, managing director of the expedition company, TAG Nepal.
Two Australian female climbers —Jane Kanizay and Gabby Kenizay–also summited Everest along with Manal. The duo also summited Lhotse.
19-year old Gabby was on a mission to become the youngest Australian female climber to summit Everest and Lhotse at the same time.
Jane and Gabby are mother and daughter. IFMGA guide Tendi Sherpa supported the duo to summit both the peaks.
“Throughout the climb Gabby was mentally and physically so strong on both mountains,” said Gurung adding, “We passed all the traffic of climbers on our way up and climbed down safely.
Nepal has issued 317 climbing permits for Everest and 127 permits for Lhotse.
A total of 450 climbers have scaled the world’s highest peak since the climbing ropes were fixed to the summit of Everest on May 7.
