The death toll from floods and landslides triggered by two days of incessant rains has rose to 209, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In a release issued on Monday, the Ministry said at least 29 people are still missing and 142 individuals have been injured in the disaster. At 425 injured people have been rescued by helicopter on Monday alone.
The government, as part of immediate relief, decided to provide Rs 200,000 to the family of each deceased who lost their lives in the rain-triggered disaster. The government will also provide the relief to the families whose members remained unaccounted for 10 days.
The late monsoon rains destroyed hundreds of houses and damaged critical infrastructures such as highways, bridges, electric poles, telephone among others. The ongoing rescue operations have been hampered by damaged infrastructure, officials said.
Meanwhile, a Cabinet meeting on Monday decided to observe three days of national mourning over the devastation caused by the rains.
