Czech climber Klára Kolouchová missing after fall on Nanga Parbat
Search operation underway with support from Pakistani Army after renowned mountaineer disappears above Camp II
Renowned Czech mountaineer Klára Kolouchová has gone missing after a fall during her descent above Camp II on Nanga Parbat (8,126m) on Thursday, according to expedition organizer Seven Summit Treks.
Kolouchová, one of the Czech Republic’s most accomplished climbers, was accompanied by outfitter’s guide Taraman Tamang when she reportedly slipped on a rocky section of the mountain. The exact location and altitude have not been officially confirmed.
A coordinated search and rescue mission is currently underway, with support from the expedition’s ground team, Kolouchová’s family, and the Pakistani Army, which has deployed a helicopter to aid in the search.
Seven Summit Treks also addressed misinformation circulating in the media, clarifying that an oxygen bottle explosion did not cause the fall. “The loud sound reported was due to an oxygen bottle striking a rock during the incident, not an explosion,” the outfitter announced on its Facebook post.
Kolouchová, 46, is celebrated for being the first Czech woman to summit K2 (8,611 m) and Kanchenjunga (8,586m) in 2019 and Annapurna I (8,091 m) in 2024. She had successfully climbed Everest (8,848.86m) in 2007 and Cho Oyu (8,188m) in 2006.
