Nguyên Thanh Nhä, alias Céline, from Vietnam has become the first woman from her country to summit Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world.
Nguyên stood atop the 8848.88m peak at 3.30 am on Monday, according to expedition organizer Seven Summit Treks. She reached the top using the standard south east ridge used by commercial climbers. Nguyên, an attorney and a model, is a well known face in Vietnam’s mountaineering circle.
Mount Everest has recorded more than 350 ascents in just one week amid a streak of good weather in the world’s tallest peak, officials said.
At least 135 clients and 215 climbing guides have successfully made it to the top of Everest since a team led by Kami Rita Sherpa laid ropes to the summit of the world’s tallest on May 7, according to liaison officer Khimlal Gautam who is in Everest Base Camp.
