British climber Adriana Brownlee scales Nanga Parbat
The 21-year-old British climber has completed eight of 14 peaks so far.
British climber Adriana Brownlee, who is on a mission to become the youngest climber to summit all 8000-meter peaks, stood atop Mount Nanga Parbat (8,126m) with renowned guide Geljie Sherpa on Saturday morning, her expedition agency Seven Summit Treks said.
The 21-year-old British climber has completed eight of 14 peaks so far.
Gelje, who has climbed 13 of 14 peaks above 8,000-meter, guided Adriana to five 8,000-meter peaks this spring in Nepal.
Japanese climber Naoko Watanabe also summited Nanga Parbat along with record holding Nepali climber Sanu Sherpa. This is Naoko’s ninth peak above 8,000m. She wants to summit all 14 peaks above 8,000m. She will now attempt three more peaks in Pakistan– Gasherbrum I, II and Broad Peak.
It is the third time that Sanu summited Nanga Parbat. He is the only climber in the world to have twice climbed 13 of 14 peaks above 8,000m. After the summit of Gasherbrum II, he will be the only person ever to complete double ascent of all 14 peaks.
On Friday, two record holding climbers — Norwegian Kristin Harila and Taiwanese Tseng Ko-Erh aka Grace Tseng reached the summit.
Kristin was accompanied by three Sherpa guides –Dawa Ongju Sherpa, Pasdawa Sherpa and Chhiring Namgel Sherpa.
