Bodies of missing Indian father and daughter found in Manang
The Armed Police Force recovered the bodies of an Indian father and daughter buried under snow near Maleripa monastery in Nepal’s Manang district after they went missing on October 20.
The bodies of two Indian nationals who had been missing since October 20 in Nepal’s Manang district were recovered by the Armed Police Force on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as 52-year-old Jigneshkumar Lallubhai Patel and his 17-year-old daughter, Priyanskakumari Patel. According to Armed Police Force spokesperson DSP Shailendra Thapa, their bodies were found around 2 p.m., buried under snow about 100 meters above Maleripa monastery, an ancient Buddhist temple inside a cave, in Ngisyang Rural Municipality-5.
The father and daughter are from Kadod village in Bardoli taluka of Surat district, Gujarat.
“We have handed over the bodies to the local police for paperwork before handover to the family members,” Thapa said.
The pair had left Gyaltsen Hotel in Ngisyang-4 on October 19, telling staff they were visiting Maleripa Monastery, but lost contact soon after. The hotel later reported the disappearance to the Armed Police Force’s mountain rescue training school in Manang. “Our team had conducted a search earlier but couldn’t locate them due to heavy snowfall. We resumed the operation today at the hotel’s request,” Thapa added.
Manang, an ancient himalayan district near Tibet, is a popular trekking destination that attracts tens of thousands of domestic and international tourist each year for its dramatic landscapes and rich Tibetan mountain culture.
