Vafa Kahraman has become the first Azerbaijani woman to summit both Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse in the same expedition, her guiding company 8K Expeditions said.

Kahraman reached the summit of Everest (8,848.86 meters) on May 15 and Lhotse (8,516 meters) on May 17, accompanied by guide Dawa Sherpa, according to a statement posted by the company.

The Everest-Lhotse traverse involves climbing two of the world’s highest peaks in one push via the South Col and is typically completed within a span of 24 to 48 hours.

The team returned safely to base camp following the climbs.
