Asma Al Thani attempting Everest without O2

Asma Al Thani, who has summited seven of the 14 eight-thousanders, has already summited Manaslu without oxygen supplement in 2021.

Qatari princess Asma Al Thani is attempting to summit Mount Everest for the second time, this time without supplementary oxygen. 

The 32-year-old, who is climbing through Elite Expeditions, has completed the acclimation process and is currently at the base camp, awaiting a favorable weather window for summit push. 

Previously, Asma has summited Makalu without supplemental oxygen in 2021.

“The mix of excitement and anxiety is palpable, but I have never felt more prepared. Here’s to facing what lies ahead with courage and an open heart,” she updated on her Instagram account.

Asma, the first Qatari woman to climb Mount Everest, is on a mission to become the first woman from the Middle East to complete the Explorers Grand Slam, which involves climbing the highest mountains in each of the seven continents and reaching the North and South Poles. 

She is also half way to summiting all of the 14 peaks above 8,000 meters. She has already summited seven of the 14 eight-thousanders -Everest (8,848.86m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,485m ), Manaslu (8,163m), Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Kanchenjunga (8,586m) and K2 (8,611m), while she has climbed six of the seven peaks from each continent.
